Riohacha was Tmacs first stop in our search for the women artisans making Mochilas in La Guajira. We arrived with no contacts and just an idea that we wanted to find the makers of these stunning bags and find out about the artisans.

After walking along the seafront and seeing many different sellers we headed to the Market Neuvo. In both locations, the women are exploited being paid well below a fair wage and sold in the market.  

We come across Daini Bruges who had traveled to the market to sell her three bags. We talk a while about the process and how far she has to travel for two hours to get to the market to sell her products.

We see her products and immediately fall in love with them. We try to find a way of buying her products in the future or if she works with any cooperatives. Unfortunately there was no way we could work together in the future, she lives far away on a Rancheria and has no way to post the products. But after agreeing a fair price for her and giving the extra for her to travel home we have these three one of a kind stunning Mochila.
